- Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 1 and 2
- Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)
- Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL)
- Germline mutation in the following genes:
- RET
- SDH subunits SDHB, SDHC, and SDHD.
- Causes of chronic hypoxia such as:[2][3]
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Cyanotic heart disease
