There is no established system for the classification of tracheitis. It may be classified based on the causative factors e,g Bacterial , Viral, Fungal, Ventilator associated tracheitis.

Classification

Tracheitis may be classified according to etiology into the following groups:

• Bacterial
• Viral
• Fungal
• Ventilator associated tracheitis
• Tracheostomy related tracheitis
