Overview
An x-ray may be helpful in the diagnosis of tracheitis. Findings on an x-ray suggestive of tracheitis include subglottic narrowing, tracheal narrowing and irregularity of tracheal mucosal wall due to edema and exudative membranes. Consolidations due to bronchopneumonia are frequently seen as a complication of tracheitis.
X Ray
An x-ray may be helpful in the diagnosis of tracheitis. Findings on an x-ray suggestive of tracheitis include:
- tracheal narrowing known as steeple sign
- irregularity of tracheal mucosal wall known as candle dripping sign
- consolidation suggesting bronchopneumonia
