Overview
Screening
- Patients with excessive alcohol intake requires screening for alcohol use with AUDIT questionnaire:[1]
- If AUDIT score ≤ 8:
- Patient doesn't have alcohol use disorder
- If AUDIT≥ 8:
- Alcohol use disorder is diagnosed
- Check liver test; if abnormal:
- Refer to alcohol addiction specialist
- Refer to GI specialist/ [[hepatologist]
- Non-invasive diagnostic tests are recommended such as Liver Ultrasound:
- No sign of hepatitis or mild hepatitis; Follow up with primary care is suggested
- Advance fibrosis or cirrhosis; consider endoscopy and screening hepatic cellular carcinoma

- Check liver test; if abnormal:
- Alcohol use disorder is diagnosed
- If AUDIT score ≤ 8:
