Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) is the name that those who practice diagnostic sonography (ultrasonic imaging) coined in the 1970's as a unique name for their profession. The certificating examination for those in the profession is administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. [2]
