Risk Factors

Risk factors for stroke include:

• Advanced age
• Hypertension
• Previous stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
• Diabetes
• High cholesterol
• Cigarette smoking
• Atrial fibrillation
• Migraine with aura
• Thrombophilia (a tendency to thrombosis)

Blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor of stroke.
