Prognosis

The prognosis vary from one type of hepatitis to other.

Complications

• Liver cancer
• Liver failure
• Permanent liver damage, called cirrhosis
• Esophageal varices that can bleed
• Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (fluid in the abdomen that becomes infected)
