Overview

Esophagitis is inflammation of the esophagus.

Common Causes

Symptoms

The symptoms of esophagitis include:

  1. Chest pain, in the middle of the chest, often radiating to the back, usually associated with swallowing or soon after a meal
  2. Nausea, vomiting, or indigestion
  3. Heartburn, acid reflux, or unpleasant taste in mouth
  4. Sore throat or hoarseness
  5. Mouth sores
  6. Difficult and/or painful swallowing, especially if there is a feeling of food getting stuck on the way down
  7. Bad breath (halitosis)
  8. Excessive belching
