Sarpagandha is a name for the plant Rauwolfia serpentina and any herbal preparations made from it. It is a plant species used in Ayurveda. Powdered root was used for "maniacal syndromes" in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

Alkaloids from this species and other species of genus Rauwolfia, most notably reserpine, have an antihypertensive effect and have been used in drugs to treat high blood pressure.
