Overview

Treatment for actinomycosis consists of antibiotics such as penicillin or amoxicillin for six to twelve months, as well as surgery if the disease is extensive.

Pharmacotherapy

• In vitro susceptible to:

  • Penicillin
  • Chloramphenicol
  • Tetracyclines
  • Erythromycin
  • Clindamycin
  • Imipenem
  • Streptomycin
  • The cephalosporins

    • Prolonged treatment (6-12 months)
