Overview
Transthoracic echocardiography is used to diagnose cardiomyopathies and valvular heart diseases as causes of third degree heart block. Transesophageal echo is used to diagnose valvular abnormalities like abscesses. Echo is also used to determine left ventricular function before placement of a pacemaker or defibrillator.
