Overview
Low HDL levels can be classified into primary and secondary. Hypoalphalipoproteinemia refers to primary lipoprotein disorders that lead to a low level of HDL. These include apolipoprotein 1 deficiency, Tangier disease, LCAT deficiency and primary hypoalphalipoproteinemia. In addition, low HDL can be secondary to other medical conditions.
