Overview

The Mammary Souffle is a murmur heard during late pregnancy and the early postpartum period in lactating women.

Pathophysiology

It is thought to be arterial in origin and can be bilateral.

Diagnosis

Physical Examination

Cardiac

It can be a continuous murmur. The murmur is louder, peaks in systole, vanishes in the upright position, and is abolished by local compression.
