Overview
Acne necrotica is a chronic necrotizing lymphocytic folliculitis characterized by umbilicated, erythematous papules that are 2–5 mm in diameter. The lesions may evolve rapidly into adherent hemorrhagic crusts and leave a permanent varioliform scar affecting areas close to the scalp margins (termed "acne necrotica varioliformis"). A milder disease, synonymous with Propionibacterium acnes folliculitis of the scalp, is featured by smaller, more numerous and itchy vesicopustular lesions distributed throughout the scalp without significant scarring (termed "acne necrotica miliaris").[1]
