Overview
The incidence of cholecystectomy procedure biliary dyskinesia has been reported to be 85 cases per million individuals in the United States and about 25 cases per million individuals outside the United States. The prevalence of functional gallbladder disorder (FGD) and sphincter of Oddi disorder (SOD) is unknown.
Epidemiology
Incidence
- The incidence of cholecystectomy procedure for biliary dyskinesia has been reported to be 85 cases per million individuals in the United States.[1]
- The incidence of cholecystectomy procedure for biliary dyskinesia has been reported to be about 25 cases per million individuals outside the United States.[1]
- From 1991 to 2001, the incidence of cholecystectomy procedure for biliary dyskinesia increased from 43.3 cases per million to 89.1 cases per million individuals in the United States.[1]
- From 1997 to 2010, there has been a 700% increase in the incidence of biliary dyskinesia among pediatric patients in the United States.[2]
Prevalence
- The prevalence of functional gallbladder disorder (FGD) is unknown.[3]
- The prevalence of sphincter of Oddi disorder (SOD) is unknown.[3]
