Overview
Recovery from CRT placement takes about 12 weeks.
Immediate Post-op Care
The patient should be monitored for at least a short period of time in a continuously monitored setting to assure the device is functioning appropriately.
Pre-Discharge Care
The device may need to be reprogrammed to optimize its function prior to discharge.
Post-Discharge Care
It takes time for the leads to fully secure themselves, and until that time, the patient should be instructed to limit movement of the arm closest to the implant (usually the left arm). For one month after surgery, the patient should not lift the affected arm above their shoulder. They should avoid heavy lifting using the affected arm.
The patient should be instructed to remain vigilant for signs of infection such as drainage of fluid, pain, heat, swelling or redness at the site of the implant. If this occurs, the patient should see the physician immediately.
