Overview
There is a limited role for laboratory tests in the diagnosis of distal radius fractures; however, elderly women may have some abnormal laboratory findings suggestive of osteoporosis.
Laboratory Findings
- There is a limited role for laboratory tests in the diagnosis of distal radius fractures.
- Post menopausal women over 65 years may have some abnormal laboratory findings suggestive of osteoporosis.
- Laboratory tests for the diagnosis of osteoporosis include:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Serum calcium
- Serum phosphate
- Serum alkaline phosphatase
- Serum 25-(OH)-vitamin D
