Overveiw
Deficiency of magnesium causes weakness, muscle cramps, cardiac arrhythmia, increased irritability of the nervous system with tremors, athetosis, jerking, nystagmus and an extensor plantar reflex. In addition, there may be confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, depression, epileptic fits, hypertension, tachycardia and tetany.
History and symptoms
Symptoms of hypomagnesemia can be one of the following: [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
- Weakness
- Muscle cramps
- Cardiac arrhythmia
- Increased irritability of the nervous system
- Tremors
- Athetosis
- Jerking
- Nystagmus
- Extensor plantar reflex
- Confusion
- Disorientation
- Hallucinations
- Depression
- Epileptic fits
- Hypertension
- Tachycardia
- Tetany.
