Overview
Hypoproteinemia is a condition where there is an abnormally low level of protein in the blood.
Classification
A specific form of hypoproteinemia is hypoalbuminemia.
Natural History, Complications and Prognosis
Hypoproteinemia results in tissue edema.
Causes
Common Causes
One common cause is due to excess protein in the urine (proteinuria), which can be a medical sign of nephrotic syndrome.
