Overview
Surgery is not the first-line treatment option for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. It is used for resistant and locally recurrent types. The methods can be divided into open and minimally invasive nasopharyngectomy.
Surgery
Surgery is not the first-line treatment option for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Surgery is usually reserved for patients with:[1][2][3][4]
- Resistant nasopharyngeal cancer to treatment
- Locally recurrent nasopharyngeal cancer
The approaches for nasopharyngectomy are:[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
- Open nasopharyngectomy, procedure types include:
- Minimally invasive techniques:
- Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy
- Robotics nasopharyngectomy
- combined craniofacial resection
