Overview

Neck CT scans may be helpful in the diagnosis of oral cancer. CT scans can provide information about the size, shape and position of any tumor and may help identify enlarged lymph nodes.

CT findings

  • A CT scan can provide information about the size, shape and position of any tumor and may help identify enlarged lymph nodes.
  • CT scans may be done for a number of reasons both before and after a cancer diagnosis, which include:
    • To diagnose oral cancer.
    • To learn how far cancer may have spread.
    • To help determine if treatment has been effective.
    • To look for possible signs of cancer recurrence after treatment.
