Overview
Many strategies such as keeping body well hydrated, avoiding undue catheterization, good glycemic control, avoidance of smoking and excessive alcohol use and avoiding prolonged urine holding, to prevent prostatitis from developing.[1][2]
Primary Prevention
Primary prevention of prostatitis may include:[1][2][3][4]
- Keeping body well hydrated
- Good glycemic control
- Hydration before getting a contrast fluid
- Avoiding unnecessary or prolonged catheterization
- Following septic measures while catheterization
- Preventing undue procedures involving the urinary tract
- Avoid smoking
- Avoid excessive alcohol use
- Moderate exercise
- Avoid prolonged holding of urine
