Overview
Lung transplantation is considered a final approach when medical therapy fails to improve the patient's respiratory status.
Surgery
Lung transplantation for occupational lung disease although performed relatively rare in the USA, is still considered when medical therapy fails to improve the patient's respiratory status. Subjects undergoing lung transplantation for silicosis, The first year post-transplant mortality risk appears to be restricted compared to those subjects undergoing lung transplantation for non-silicotic occupational lung diseases.[1]
