Sodium superoxide

Sodium superoxide is a yellow solid with the chemical formula NaO₂.

NaO₂ is formed when sodium is burned in oxygen at elevated temperature and pressure.

Na + O₂ → NaO₂

NaO₂ is hydrolyzed by water to form sodium hydroxide plus oxygen.

NaO₂ + H₂O → NaOH + O₂
