I am a first year medical student (MBBS) at the University of The West Indies - Mona. I am 21 years old and I hail from the island country of St. Kitts and Nevis, in the Caribbean.

In 2015, after a rigorous selection process I was selected as a MHIRT scholar. I was chosen from a pool of hundreds of minority students from the United States, South Africa and the Caribbean. Under the tutelage of a seasoned public health professor from the University of Virginia, we investigated the "Prevalence and perceptions of type II diabetes on St. Kitts-Nevis.” Through this research initiative we were able to provide baseline data to the Ministry of Health of St. Kitts and Nevis (My home country).
