Overview
When one hemithorax is opacified completely, establishing volume loss is important. Therefore observe the position of the trachea, crowding of the ribs, shift of the mediastinum and position of diaphragm.
Using position of the trachea as a marker
Pulled towards white out:
- Pneumonectomy
- Total Lung Collapse
- Pulmonary agenesis
Central position:
- Consolidation
- Mesothelioma
Pushed away from white out:
- Pleural effusion
- Diphragmatic hernia
