Like other nematodes, ''Oesophagostomum spp.'' contain a developed, multi-nucleate digestive tract as well as a reproductive system.  Their developed buccal capsule and club-shaped oesophagus are useful for distinguishing ''Oesophagostomum spp.'' from hookworms.<ref>Elmes, B et al.
