Overview
Other diagnostic studies for the diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma include bone marrow aspiration, lumbar puncture, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, laparoscopy, and laparotomy.
Other Diagnostic Studies
Other diagnostic studies for the diagnosis of mantle cell lymphoma include:
- Bone marrow aspiration
- Lumbar puncture
- Colonoscopy
- Upper endoscopy
- Laparoscopy (rarely performed)
- Laparotomy (rarely performed)
Bone Marrow Aspiration
Mantle cell lymphoma is a systemic disease that can affect the extra nodal sites like the bone marrow and the peripheral blood. Therefore, bone marrow biopsy is useful in the diagnosis of MCL.[1]
Lumbar Puncture
In some patients with the blastic variant, lumbar puncture is done to evaluate the spinal fluid for CNS involvement.[2]
Colonoscopy
Lymphomatous polyposis coli and colon involvement is common in MCL, so, colonoscopy can be helpful in the diagnosis of MCL.[3]
Upper Endoscopy
Upper endoscopy may be helpful in selected cases involving the gastrointestinal tract.
