Overview
MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer. It may be suggestive of lymph node involvement as the first presentation of papillary thyroid cancer on MRI imaging.
MRI
- MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer. It may be suggestive of lymph node involvement as the first presentation of papillary thyroid cancer on MRI imaging.
- MRI findings associated with nodal involvement include:[1]
- Cystic components
- Calcification
- Hyperintensity on T1 due to proteinaceous or hemorrhagic content
- Papillary thyroid cancer may appear as a heterogeneous, enhancing mass on T1-weighted MRI images.[2]
- MRI imaging may also be helpful for assessment of thyroid cancer recurrence.
