Overview
Surgery is usually not required for prostatitis. In certain scenarios surgery can be helpful e.g when draining an abscess. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy has also proved to be helpful in chronic abacterial prostatitis.[1]
Surgery
Transurethral resection of the Prostate
Transurethral resection of the prostate or TURP is a drainage procedure which can be very helpful in minimizing the duration of required medical therapy, specially when there is an abscess associated with prostatitis.[2]
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy has shown to be very effective in treatment of chronic pelvic pain syndrome or chronic bacterial prostatitis. It improves multiple aspects and is no significant side effects have been reported so far.[3]
