Overview
Mumps is a clinical diagnosis. Imaging studies do not play a role in the initial diagnosis of mumps. However, imaging studies, such as a CT scan, may be helpful in patients with secondary complications.
CT
- Secondary CNS complications include encephalitis and meningitis, which may cause raised intracranial pressure. In such conditions, CT scan without contrast, prior to lumbar puncture may be helpful.
