Acute right lower quadrant abdominal pain arises from the distal gastrointestinal tract and is accompanied by other symptoms like diarrhea, hematochezia and tenesmus.  With the most common cause being [[appendicitis]], pain from above abdominal and below pelvic structures may also radiate towards this quadrant.  In females, obstetric and gynecological causes must also be considered in addition to the usual causes.
