Overview
Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of Kaposi's sarcoma include decreased hemoglobin level, positive HIV tests, and positive HHV-8 antigen on immunohistochemistry.[1][2]
Laboratory Findings
Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of kaposi's sarcoma include:
Complete blood count
- Decreased hemoglobin level on CBC
Electrophoresis
- Detect antibodies against KSHV
ELISA
- Screens for HIV infection among Kaposi's sarcoma patients
Western Blot
- Confirms HIV infection among Kaposi's sarcoma patients
Immunohistochemistry
- Kaposi's sarcoma cells are typically CD34, HHV-8, and D2-40 positive
