Appearance of the patient
- Patients with pulmonary fibrosis usually appear tired and ill due to difficulty of breathing.
Vital Signs
- Tachypnea
- Shallow breathing
Lungs
- Velcro crackles: Bibasilar inspiratory crackles
Heart
- Patients with pulmonary fibrosis may be complicated with pulmonary hypertension.
- Physical examination findings indclude the following:
- Loud P2 of S2
- Fixed split S2
- New holosystolic tricuspid regurgitation murmur
- Right ventricular hypertrophy
- Jugular vein distension
Extremities
- Clubbing
- Pedal edema in cases of pulmonary hypertension
