Complications
- Common complications of FMD include:
- Renal or cervival artery dissection
- Intracranial aneurysms rupture and SAH
- Carotid-cavernous fistula
- Vertebral arteriovenous fistula
Cervical artery dissection is a classical complication of cervicocranial FMD In the US FMD registr, about 20% of patients suffered from carotid arteries dissection.[1]
Prognosis
- The long-term prognosis of patients with the cervicocranial FMD is good, and its existence alone is not an indication for preventive surgery.
