Overview
Causes
The most common cause of spinal stenosis is degenerative joint disease.
Common causes of spinal stenosis include:
- Degenerative joint disease[1]
- Spinal disc herniation[2]
- Thickness of the Ligamentum Flavum[3]
- Trauma[4]
- Tumor (primary or secondary)[5]
- Secondary tumors: lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, or renal cancer. Sarcoma, myeloma, leukemia, thyroid cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, and gastrointestinal malignancies can also cause spinal stenosis
- Scoliosis[6]
- Vertebral compression fractures[7]
- Epidural abscess[8]
- Epidural hematoma[9][10][11]
Less common causes are:
