There are no MRI findings associated with pneumoconiosis but may be helpful to differentiate between other pathologies by using a T2W imaging sequence. Overview
There are no MRI findings associated with pneumoconiosis but may be helpful to differentiate between other pathologies by using a T2W imaging sequence. It is preferred to CT scans in those patients who need to be repeatedly scanned as they would not be exposed to radiation. [1] [2] [3]
MRI
MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of pneumoconiosis by excluding other pathologies. For example: [4] [5]
- MRIs can differentiate between progressive massive fibrosis found in pneumoconiosis with lung cancer. Progressive massive fibrosis would show low signal intensity while lung cancer shows high signal intensity.
