The onset of adrenal insufficiency is often very gradual, and it may go undetected until an illness or other stress precipitates adrenal crisis. However, the most common symptoms in patients with adrenal atrophy are as follows:
- Fatigue
- Weight loss
- Weakness
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Diffuse myalgia or arthralgia
- Lightheadedness
- Salt cravings
- Depression
- Irritability
- Insomnia
- Headaches
- Psychosis or mania in some cases
