Overview
Hanifin and Rajka criteria are the gold standard for diagnosing eczema. It should satisfy 3 out of 4 major criteria, or 3 out of 23 minor criteria. [1] United Kingdom Working Party diagnostic criteria is another alternative method of diagnosing eczema which requires 1 mandatory criterion and 5 major criteria, and no laboratory testing is needed. [2] [3] To assess the long-term control of this disease, three methods are used, namely the repeated measurement of outcomes, the number of medications used, and the occurrence of flares or remissions.[4]
Eczema screening
- Hanifin and Rajka criteria is the gold standard for diagnosing eczema.
- Three out of 4 major criteria, or 3 out of 23 minor criteria should be satisfied.
- Another alternative method is the United Kingdom Working Party diagnostic criteria which only requires 1 mandatory criterion, and 5 major criteria, and no laboratory testing is required.
- Three methods are used to assess the control of the disease, namely the repeated measurement of outcomes, the number of medications used, and the occurrence of flares or remissions.
