Overview
Ovarian follicle atresia is a process which through ovarian follicles undergo a degenerative process called atresia during reproductive life, almost 99% of ovarian follicles undergo this process and only 1% proceed into ovulation.[1][2] this is a hormonally controlled apoptotic process[3] that depends dominantly depends on granulosa cell apoptosis. until now at least five cell death ligand-receptor systems tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF alpha) and receptors, Fas ligand and receptors, TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL; also called APO-2) and receptors, APO-3 ligand and receptors, and PFG-5 ligand and receptors have been reported in granulosa cells [1]
