Ventricular septum anatomy [1]
The ventricular septum can be divided into four components-
- Membranous
- Inlet septum
- Trabecular septum
- Outlet or Infundibular septum
The disease occurs either due to defective growth or failure to alignment of one of these components. Types of defects seen are-
- Membranous septum (Perimembranous, paramembranous)are most commonly seen.
- Muscular septum defect
- Outlet septum defect(supracristal/subpulmonary/outlet)
- Malalignment of one of these septums.
