Causes of Patent ductus arteriosus is not known. However, increased incidence have been associated with mother's rubella and genetic causes
Causes
- Genetic factors - It has been found to occur with increased frequencies in some families, indicating some association with autosomal dominant inheritence [1]. The exact gene location for patent ductus arteriosus has not yet been determined.
- Congenital rubella (associated with PDA and pulmonary artery stenosis)
- Fetal alcohol syndrome
- Maternal drug use
