Hemophilia B (also known as Christmas disease) accounts for the remaining 20% of cases and results from a deficiency of coagulation factor IX.[1]

Each year, about 400 babies are born with the disorder in United States. Hemophilia usually occurs in males and less often in females. Hemophilia is rare, with only about 1 instance in every 10,000 births (or 1 in 5,000 male births) for hemophilia A and 1 in 50,000 births for hemophilia B.
