Overview
On CT head, it shows hypodensity with little or no enhancement for diffuse gliomas, isointensity for focal gliomas, and isodensity with little or no enhancement for tectal brainstem gliomas.
CT
Head CT scan is helpful in the diagnosis of brainstem gliomas. The findings will vary with the tumor type.[1]
- Diffuse brainstem glioma
- Typically hypodense with little, if any, enhancement
- Focal brainstem gliomas
- Isointense on CT
- Tectal gliomas
- Typical CT finding is homogeneous expansion of tectal plate, isodense to grey matter with minimal enhancement on postcontrast images. It is also common to find a central tectal calcification
