Acute
- General association with Group A streptococcal infection of the throat
- 2 outcomes:
- Acute for the duration of the disease
- Complete regression of the clinical symptomatology
- Normalized laboratory parameters
- No residual changes
- Progression toward chronic
- Acute for the duration of the disease
Chronic
- Characterized by a cardiac valvular lesion developing following acute rheumatic fever
