- T-cell deficiency
- Elderly age
- Critically ill patients
- Patients with malignancy
- Patients with burn injuries[3]
- Patients with the following risk factors are at a higher risk to be seropositive for cytomegalovirus infection:[4]
- Female sex
- Foreign birthplace
- Low income
- Overcrowding
- Low education and socioeconomic status
