Volvulus must be distinguished from other diseases, as it may be a solitary finding or a feature of another disease.

Differentiating Volvulus from other Diseases

The following are differential diagnoses for volvulus:

• Crohn's Disease
• Necrotizing enterocolitis
• Duodenal atresia
• Pyloric stenosis
• Gastroenteritis
• Superior mesenteric artery syndrome
• Gastroesophageal reflux
• Ulcerative colitis
• Toxic megacolon
• Pseudocolonic obstruction (Ogilvie's syndrome)
