Overview
Common risk factors in the development of laryngeal cancer are smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, and heavy alcohol consumption.
Risk Factors
Common risk factors for the development of laryngeal cancer include:
- Alcohol[1][2][3][4]
- Tobacco products[1][4][5][6][7]
- Viral infection: EBV[8] ,HPV, hepatitis C virus (HCV)[9], and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Herpes[10]
- Immunodeficiency: HIV or solid organ transplantation has been associated with an increased risk of cancer in the head and neck region[11]
- Betel nut chewing [12]
- Pesticides, man-made mineral vitreous fibers (MMMF), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
- Mouthwash [17]
