Testicular cancer may be classified according to cell types into two subtypes: germ cell tumors and non–germ cell tumors.

- Seminomas
- Non-seminomas
- Embryonal carcinoma
- Yolk sac carcinoma
- Choriocarcinoma
- Teratoma
- Non–germ cell tumors
- Sex cord stromal tumors
- Leydig cell tumors
- Sertoli cell tumors
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the testis
- Adenocarcinoma of the rete testis
- Lymphoma that spreads, or metastasizes, to the testicle (called testicular metastasis or secondary testicular cancer)
- Malignant mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis
- Paratesticular rhabdomyosarcoma
