Overview
The following motility disorders cause biliary colic without the presence of gallstones: functional gallbladder disorder (FGD) and sphincter of Oddi disorder (SOD).
Causes
- The following motility disorders cause biliary colic without the presence of gallstones:
- Functional gallbladder disorder (FGD)
- Sphincter of Oddi disorder (SOD)
- Biliary dyskinesia happens when :
- Due to gallbladder dyskinesia/hypokinesia, which leads to abnormal gallbladder contraction, bile is not secreted properly.
- There is no coordination between gallbladder contraction and sphincter of Oddi relaxation.
- Due to an obstruction (structural or functional), bile is not able to flow through the common bile duct (CBD).
